Gmail is a free web-based email service similar to Yahoo Mail or Hotmail. If you have a Gmail account already, you may use your pre-exisiting account, or create a new one specifically for use during the NetTrek program. A Gmail account is necessary to create your personal blog that will be used to track your progress through the program. It will also be required to complete unit exercises planned for the future. Follow these steps to get started:
3. Complete the online registration form and click “I accept. Create my account.” (click for larger view)
4. You will then be redirected to an introduction page. Click on “Show me my account.”
5. Congratulations, you’ve set up your very own Gmail account! Be sure to save your username and password in a safe place, or at the very least write down your security question so you can prompt yourself should your password be lost or forgotten.
Now that you are logged into your Gmail, feel free to explore the tools provided. This knowledge may be useful someday if you are ever asked to help a patron set-up an email account. You may also watch this video tutorial to take the grand tour of Gmail’s features.
